Mother, Child Perish In Anambra Crash, As Eyewitness decries Deplorable Roads

 

Awka – A woman and her child have been killed and 9 others injured following a fatal crash at the Uli axis of the Ihialla-Onitsha road on Sunday.

The crash involved one vehicle- a Nissan Caravan bus, with registration number, ACA 989 ZW, belonging to ONYEMAECHI Transport Company.

The accident was allegedly attributed to tyre burst.

An eye witness, revealed that the driver of the bus lost control as a result of tyre burst and crashed.

“The bus driver had bumped into a sharp pothole which may have caused the tyre to burst.

“This is the challenge we face in Anambra State where all the roads are in very deplorable condition.

“There is no single road in the state and the state government is doing absolutely nothing about it, even as the existing ones built by the previous administration are getting worse,” he lamented.

When contacted, the acting Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC in Anambra, Margaret Onabe said 12 persons, including 5 male adults, 5 female adults, 1 male child, and 1 female child, were involved in the crash.

“9 persons (3 male adults, 5 female adults, and 1 male child) sustained varies degrees of injuries.

“2 persons were killed including 1 female adult and one female child,” she revealed.

Onabe said the injured victims were rushed to Nnadi hospital, and Infant Jesus hospital Ihialla, by FRSC personnel where the victims were confirmed dead by the doctor on duty and their corpses deposited at Ark Angels Mortuary Ihialla.

“The Sector Commander Anambra State, Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi, expressed sympathy to the family of the dead victims.

“He urges the motoring public to ensure their vehicles are in good condition before hitting the road.

“Traffic rules and regulations must be maintained always,” the Anambra FRSC spokesperson said.
