Mondays Sit-at-Home: Obiano Threatens Banks, Markets, Transport Leaders

—

Awka – Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano has warned that any bank operating in the state that fails to open on Monday, 13 September, 2021, will be closed for one week.

The governor further warned that if such banks fails to open for the second consecutive week, they will be shut down permanently.

The governor who was speaking during a meeting on Friday with members of the State Security Council comprising all security outfits in the state, heads of all bank branches, market and transport leaders in the state, said his government is deeply concerned about theĀ  economic implications of the Sit-at-Home order on the state.

According to the Governor who stressed that the sit at home compliance affects the Gross Domestic Product, GDP and economy of the state, “banks that don’t comply with the directive will be sealed for the whole week.

“One cannot quantify the magnitude of loss the state suffers as a result of this order. It is important to state clearly that there is nothing to gain but all losses from the order. So, any bank that does not open the following Monday, such banks will be permanently closed,” he threatened.

He assured that adequate security measures have been put in place to ensure compliance, saying that security patrol will increase around bank branches and other business ventures across the state.

“That is why we have service commanders in this meeting, to reassure you that we are ready to provide the required security for you to do your businesses without fear. The security agencies have been directed to provide adequate security for the banks and markets,” he assured.

The governor asked the bank branch heads to articulate their bank branches and relevant information to be handed over to the Commissioner of Police, for adequate planning and entrenchment of security, as security operatives will be deployed early in strategic locations to ensure that people move about without molestation.

Governor Obiano further directed that markets will continue to open, as well as commuters involved in transportation business, asking people to have confidence and go about their businesses without fear of harassment.
