The mother of famous Hausa musician Dauda Adamu, known as Rarara, Mrs. Hajiya Hauwa’u Adamu has been released from captivity.Â
The singer announced her release via his verified Instagram handle on Wednesday morning. He did not disclose whether any ransom was paid to secure her freedom.
The 75-year-old woman was kidnapped in late June by suspected terrorists in Katsina State. A family source revealed that the kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of N1 billion.
“They contacted the family using a phone they had taken from a woman during the abduction. Initially, they demanded N1 billion, but after a brief discussion with a family member, they reduced the amount to N900 million,” the source said.
The source added, “At first, they insisted on negotiating directly with Rarara, who fell ill following his mother’s abduction. Eventually, they agreed to negotiate with another family member. The kidnappers confirmed that Hajiya was in good condition and would be released once the ransom was paid.
“The discussion between the kidnappers and the family was brief, and the family has not heard from them since. However, they believe the negotiations are ongoing and are awaiting further contact from the kidnappers.”
