Irish Chef Alan Fisher Breaks Hilda Baci’s Record

The Guinness World Book of Records has confirmed that Hilda Baci’s cooking marathon record has been broken.

Her cooking record which was set at 93 hours and 11 minutes, was broken by Alan Fisher an Irish Chef who cooked for an incredible 119 hours and 57 minutes at his restaurant  Kyojin Stewhouse in Japan. The Chef not only broke the longest cooking marathon by an individual but also broke the longest baking marathon (individual) record.

While participating in the “I Love Ireland” festival in Tokyo, Alan came across information about the longest cooking marathon record in March. While taking a break, he decided to search the internet and discovered that the record, held at the time by Lata Tondon (India), amounted to 87 hours and 45 minutes. However, in May, Alan found out that Hilda Baci had surpassed this record.

Despite all the odds faced even with the preparation phase, with the support of the Matue community and TSK, the local TV provider, Alan Fisher spent nine days baking and cooking; in the end producing 357 kg of soda bread and 590 kg of various dishes, which equated to 3,360 portions across 32 different recipes.

He said of his amazing achievement;

“Records are made to be broken but for today at least, I can hold both simultaneously. So many sleepless nights, early mornings, anxieties, and financial stress to keep the business alive. Just head down and persevere. Breaking these records is a fitting way to share our story and create a little awareness about the Irish connection here in Matsue.”
