The Bauchi State Roads Traffic Agency (BAROTA) has expressed apprehension regarding the increased congestion on main roads in Bauchi metropolis due to the celebratory events where horse riders participate, such as weddings and other gatherings.Â
Consequently, in an effort to alleviate the traffic issues caused by these equestrian celebrations, BAROTA has implemented a prohibition on the practice of riding horses on the main roads within the city.
This decision aims to streamline and regulate traffic flow, ensuring the smooth movement of vehicles and pedestrians in the urban landscape.
The initiative is driven by a desire to strike a balance between cultural traditions and the practical considerations of modern urban transportation infrastructure.
By enforcing this restriction, BAROTA aims to enhance the overall efficiency and safety of road usage in Bauchi metropolis, addressing the concerns arising from the intersection of traditional festivities and contemporary traffic management.
People traveling through Bauchi city center from certain parts of the northeast have faced delays, especially during weekends when weddings are celebrated, due to slow traffic caused by unauthorized horse riders.
BAROTA’s information officer, Dahiru Adamu, shared this information with reporters in Bauchi yesterday.
He cautioned all road users against engaging in illegal activities that could lead to congestion, traffic obstructions, accidents, and delays.
Dahiru mentioned that BAROTA personnel will actively pursue operators of illegal motor parks across the state to improve the system’s safety for passengers.
Additionally, he warned drivers about traffic violations such as improper parking, driving without proper lights at night, speeding, and loading or unloading passengers by the roadside.
The information officer specifically addressed tricycle operators, advising them to avoid overloading.
He emphasized that those violating the law would face appropriate consequences.
