Gunmen launched a brazen attack on Karin-Usmanu village, located in the Karim Lamido Local Government Area, on Sunday night.
The assailants targeted and brutally murdered the village head, Auwalu Abubakar, marking yet another dark chapter in the community’s recent history of violence.
This horrific incident comes just five months after Auwalu Abubakar’s younger brother fell victim to a similar fate, also at the hands of unknown gunmen.
Bitrus Ilu Danjos, the chairman of the local government council, confirmed the devastating news, recounting how he received the distressing call mere minutes after the attack unfolded.
Five minutes after the incident, I was called from Usmanu village and told that His Royal Highness, Auwalu Abubakar, the village head of Usmanu, was gunned down by some gunmen.”
He revealed that the villagers, gripped by fear, have fled their homes in a desperate bid to escape the looming threat of further violence.
Despite the understandable anger and desire for retaliation among some of the youth in the community, local authorities have urged restraint, emphasizing the importance of allowing law enforcement agencies to handle the situation.
The recurrence of such crimes within such a short period of time has raised serious concerns about the security situation in the area.
The chairman’s plea for calm underscores the urgent need for intervention from higher authorities.
Thankfully, the state governor has been informed of the situation and has swiftly ordered security operatives to restore peace and order to Karin-Usmanu.”
DSP Kwache Gambo, the spokesperson for the state police command, has also confirmed the incident, assuring the public that every effort is being made to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure that they face the full force of the law.
