Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has voiced strong concerns about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s policies, warning that they could jeopardize his chances of re-election in 2027.
According to Governor Mohammed, the policies enacted by Tinubu’s administration are causing significant distress to the general populace.
Governor Mohammed referenced the recent nationwide broadcast by President Tinubu in response to the #EndBadGovernance protest, expressing his disappointment.
He emphasized that there was no prior consultation with state governors before the President’s address, which he believes does not reflect the current realities on the ground.
The governor highlighted a substantial disconnect between the government and the people.
Speaking at the launch of the state PDP local government election campaign on Wednesday at the Alhaji Rilwanu Adamu Suleiman Square, Government House, the governor urged President Tinubu to reconsider his policies, arguing that they were ineffective and harmful to all, irrespective of political affiliation.
Governor Mohammed, who also serves as the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, stated, “I am urging President Tinubu to change this policy because it is not working and will affect everyone, regardless of political party. If he continues in this manner, in 2027, I will invite him to be our campaign director, as the PDP will dominate and we will win due to his self-inflicted injury.”
The governor stressed the importance of governance and the role of the opposition in ensuring accountability. “As the opposition, we recognize that it is time for governance. We have been patient to avoid overheating the political climate. However, the Federal Government is taking actions that provoke unrest. We humbly insist that this must stop,” he said.
Governor Mohammed further noted that the PDP, along with its governors, has been attentive to the concerns of the youth and protesters.
He condemned the Federal Government for continuing to make excuses and urged them to change their approach. “We do not take the public’s trust for granted. We are stepping up, having already worked hard to provide good governance,” he added.
The governor’s remarks underscore a growing tension between state leaders and the Federal Government, highlighting the need for a more inclusive and responsive approach to governance.
