The Chairman of the Task Force Committee in Gombe State, Group Captain Bitrus Bilal (retd.), has issued a ban on illegal nightclubs, brothels, and the unauthorized conversion of homes in the state.Â
This decision comes after the closure of local nightclubs, commonly known as ‘gala houses,’ due to concerns about criminal activities taking place in these establishments.
Bilal expressed concern about property owners permitting their spaces to be used for Gala houses, brothels, or unlicensed nightclubs.
Some have even converted private homes into nightclubs or hotels without the necessary approvals from state agencies like GOSUPDA, GOGIS, and the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Tourism.
To clarify the directive, Bilal emphasized that all Gala houses, brothels, and unlicensed nightclubs in Gombe State are now prohibited from operating.
This ban extends to the closure and prevention of new Gala houses, brothels, and unlicensed nightclubs.
Any property owner found allowing their space to be used for such activities faces the risk of government confiscation, potential demolition, or conversion for public use as outlined in executive order number 006 of 2023.
Violators of this order will be subject to penalties outlined in existing laws and regulations, including fines, establishment closures, and legal prosecution.
Bilal lamented the persistent challenge despite the committee’s efforts, stating that some establishments continue to engage in illegal and immoral activities, serving as hideouts for criminal elements.
Despite previous demolitions and closures by the Task Force, reports still indicate the existence of Gala Houses, brothels, and unlicensed nightclubs in Gombe State.
These places are allegedly being used to harbor fugitives from justice and propagate illegal and immoral activities, contrary to the state government’s efforts to protect public welfare, uphold moral values, and ensure the safety and well-being of its citizens.
