Fire Service Director Details Mandilas Building Fire Outbreak

—

The Mandilas building, a 10-story structure on Broad Street, Lagos Island, suffered a significant fire outbreak in the early hours of Monday. The 49-year-old building sustained substantial damage, with properties worth millions being burnt. The fire originated on the first floor and spread to the fourth floor.

Emergency responders, including the Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Police, and others, swiftly mobilized to the scene to contain the fire. Margaret Adeseye, the Director of the Fire and Rescue Service, reported that they received a call at 13:15 hours about the incident. Firefighters from various stations were actively engaged in suppressing the fire.

Jubril Gawat, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Sanwo-Olu on New Media, provided an update, stating that the fire has been completely extinguished. First responders continue to manage the scene, including road closures. The Lagos State Building Control Agency started clearing shop extensions to facilitate access for firefighting efforts.

Despite the extensive damage, no lives were reported lost in the incident. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigations are likely to be conducted to determine the origin.
