Tinubu government orders ministries and agencies to halt information leaks to Nigerians

A press statement from Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, was released on Monday to top officials of all government ministries and institutions in Nigeria.

The statement highlights actions taken by the Nigerian government, led by President Bola Tinubu, to prevent the unauthorized release of official documents regarding ministry activities and policies.

The statement expressed concern over the increasing leaks of sensitive official papers from Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), deeming it embarrassing and unacceptable.

To address this issue, all Permanent Secretaries are urged to expedite the transition to a digitalized workflow system and ensure the effective deployment of Enterprise Content Management (ECM) Solutions.

This move aims to minimize physical handling of official documents, thus reducing the risk of leaks and unauthorized circulation.

Additionally, Permanent Secretaries are instructed to warn staff members against leaking or circulating official information and documents.

Any employee found engaging in such actions will face severe consequences in accordance with relevant rules and regulations.

This directive reinforces previous circulars, such as the one dated August 2, 2021, on Unauthorized Circulation of Official Documents/Information on Social Media, and other regulations prohibiting the unauthorized disclosure or leakage of official documents.

Permanent Secretaries are tasked with ensuring strict compliance with the contents of this circular and are required to inform the heads of the agencies under their supervision accordingly.
