Fan's Death: Granada Vs Bilbao tie to resume today after it was suspended

The game between Granada and Athletic Bilbao will resume this evening following its abandonment in the 15th minute when a fan died due to cardiac arrest at the stand. It was gathered that the Athletic goalkeeper, Unai Simon, upon being informed about the ugly incident by a fan, immediately rushed to call the attention of the center referee. The match was stopped as the medical team continued to treat the fan to help rescue his life.

Simon continued to get encomium from fans who sang his name following his effort to tell the referee about the development. Players of both teams remained on the pitch until the 40th minute before going into the locker rooms and the game was called off by the referee. Ghanaian forward Inaki Williams ‘6th-minute strike set Bilbao for the early lead before the horrendous scene.

Granada released a club statement asserting that the game was indefinitely suspended following the dreadful scene, while it also expressed its condolences to the family of the deceased:

“The Granada Football Club informs that the match against Athletic Club de Bilbao corresponding to matchday 16 of LaLiga EA SPORTS is suspended indefinitely after the death of a season ticket holder to this club in the stands of Nuevo Los Cármenes.

From the Entity, we want to send our most sincere condolences to the family and friends, as well as to the entire Granada family.”
