Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, has introduced two new AI models, Grok-2 and Grok-2 mini, in a beta release.Â
These models come with enhanced reasoning abilities and the added capability of generating images directly on the X social network, formerly known as Twitter.
However, access to these new features is currently restricted to users with Premium and Premium+ subscriptions.
xAI has highlighted Grok-2 as a significant upgrade from its predecessor, Grok-1.5, offering advanced features in areas like chat, coding, and reasoning.
Alongside Grok-2, the company also unveiled Grok-2 mini, a smaller version designed to deliver similar capabilities in a more compact form.
Users have already begun using Grok-2 to create images, raising concerns about the lack of restrictions, especially with images of political figures.
This has sparked fears that the tool could be misused to spread misinformation or harmful content.
In addition, xAI has announced plans to make both Grok-2 and Grok-2 mini available to developers through an enterprise API later this month.
The company is also looking to integrate these models into X’s AI-driven features, enhancing functions such as search, post analytics, and replies.
A preview of multimodal understanding, which combines text, images, and other media, is expected to be part of Grok’s future capabilities on X and its API.
