The Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, has promised that the government is working hard to help the many children in Nigeria who are not going to school.
He said this while opening a new office building for the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education in Abuja.
The Commission was set up in 2023 to help deal with the problem of many children in Nigeria not getting an education.
Its goal is to teach children skills and prevent them from being poor or getting into trouble.
Professor Mamman said that the new office building will help the Commission do its job better.
He said they have already started working to make sure more Nigerian children can go to school. He emphasized that it’s time for action and not just talking about the problem.
He also said that the Education Ministry will make sure that the new Commission works well with other groups trying to help out-of-school children. They want to avoid any problems or wasting time.
Professor Mamman mentioned that many young people in Nigeria are not going to school, and this is a big problem for the country. He said the government is in a hurry to fix this problem because time is running out.
He asked for help from other countries and groups who want to help solve this problem. He said it’s important for everyone to work together to fix this national problem.
The Executive Secretary of the Commission, Dr. Sha’aban Sharada, also spoke at the event.
He said that opening the new office is a sign of hope for many children who haven’t been able to go to school.
He said the Commission’s goal is to help millions of children get a good education and learn skills for their future.
Dr. Sharada mentioned that one of their big goals is to get 10 million out-of-school children back into school by 2027. He said it’s a tough challenge, but they are determined to succeed.
“We will work with religious and traditional rulers, members of the diplomatic corps, NGOs, and many others who share our vision for an education empowered generation. The road may be long, but the destination is clear,” he noted.
Representatives from UNESCO, the World Bank, and other groups also attended the event. They promised to help the new Commission achieve its goals and support its work.
