The Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) expressed its appreciation for the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and its effective monetary policies, particularly those that have contributed to stabilizing the naira against other currencies, notably the dollar.Â
This commendation was conveyed in a communique released following the conclusion of its 71st General Church Council, held in Jos from Monday to Friday.
Reverend Dr. Stephen Panya, the President of ECWA, presented the communiqué, highlighting the council’s satisfaction with the proactive measures undertaken by the CBN to prevent the devaluation of the naira.
The church emphasized the importance of sustaining these efforts to combat inflation and alleviate the burden of high costs of goods and services in Nigeria, which relies heavily on imports.
However, the council expressed grave concern over the prevalent hunger among citizens, primarily stemming from food shortages due to ongoing insecurity.
Rural areas, which are crucial for food production, have been particularly impacted, with farming activities severely disrupted.
To address this issue, ECWA urged both federal and state governments to take decisive action to mitigate insecurity and facilitate the resumption of farming activities.
The council also noted the adverse effects of subsidy removal on petroleum products and the subsequent increase in electricity tariffs, which have further exacerbated the cost of living in the country.
Consequently, the church called upon the government to implement measures aimed at alleviating the hardships faced by its citizens.
In addition to addressing domestic concerns, ECWA also emphasized the importance of religious tolerance on a global scale, advocating for harmony among individuals of different faiths.
This call for tolerance reflects the church’s broader commitment to promoting peace and understanding among diverse communities.
