COVID-19: Anambra inaugurates JTTT on food, agric products movement

A Joint Technical Task Team (JTTT) to assist in the free movement of food and farm inputs across Anambra State, especially during the COVID-19 period, has been inaugurated in Awka, the State capital.

The Joint Technical Task Team is saddled with the responsibility of collaborating with relevant agencies in the State and Local Government Areas to develop a mechanism that will facilitate the free and unhindered movement of food, livestock and agricultural inputs without compromising the security and health of people of the state and the nation.

The Task Team has as its Chairman, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. John Bassey Abang, who is the Chairman of the State’s Joint Council on Security while Mr Arthur Mbuba, the State Director, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Anambra State is the Secretary.

Other members include Comrade Emmanuel Ifesinachi, the State Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), the State Chairman, All Farmers’ Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Hon. Joseph Madubuko, the Assistant Commandant, Agro Rangers, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the State Chairman, National Association of Transport Owners (NATO); and the State Chairman, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Anambra State.

The team will, in addition, have the duty to issue out clear instructions to all security personnel in the three internal security outfits including the Police, NSCDC and the Army, on the need to ensure agro-produce, excluding passengers, are allowed passage.

It will also ensure that adequate information clarifying the controlled movement of the essential food commodities were made known specifically to food transporters and security personnel.

Addressing members of the team during the inaugural ceremony in his office at the Force Headquarters, Amawbia, the Commissioner of Police in the State and the Chairman of the team, CP John Abang reminded them that their assignment is critical and crucial at this period when food availability, food security and food stability is paramount.

CP Abang charged them to show a high level of commitment, diligence and resilience in the discharge of the onerous task.
