Reports filtering into the News Chronicle’s news desk indicate that the Court of Appeal in Abuja has set Thursday, November 23, 2023, for judgment on the appeal filed by Governor Abdullahi A. Sule of the APC.
Sule is challenging the declaration by the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal on October 2, 2023, which states that Dr. David Emmanuel Ombugadu of the PDP is the duly elected Governor of Nasarawa state following the March 28th Governorship election.
Recall that on November 15, the Appellate Court reserved judgment in the case between APC’s Eng. Abdullahi A. Sule and Dr. David Emmanuel Ombugadu of the PDP.
Earlier, the Nigerian Police, through the Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, Shettima Muhammad, released a statement warning political parties and their supporters to desist from any act that could lead to a breakdown of law. This warning comes as the Court Judgment approaches.
“Security personnel have been adequately deployed to strategic locations in the State to maintain peace. I hereby call on leaders of all political parties to prevail on their supporters to shun unguarded utterances that may trigger political tension or engage in mass action that may be seen as preparation for a violent procession. They should also celebrate moderately without infringing on the fundamental rights of members of the public. Anyone or group that tries to disrupt peace and cause a breakdown of law and order shall face the full wrath of the law.”
The statement enjoined the people of the state to go about their normal activities while stating that the police remain resolute in securing lives and property across the state.
The News Chronicle had earlier reported that supporters of the Peoples’ Democratic Party cutting across the Christian and Muslim religions in the state have called for a 7-day prayer and fasting session. This session began on Monday, November 20, 2023, in preparation for the Court judgment scheduled for tomorrow.
