The General Manager of the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA), Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu has cautioned illegal car park operators in the state, emphasising the hazards associated with their operations and unregulated parking activities.

Adelabu conveyed this warning in a statement released from her office recently, highlighting recent incidents that underscored the risks of using unauthorised parking facilities and unapproved road sections for parking, which not only endanger public safety but also hinder the state’s efforts in traffic management

In her words, “Operating or using unregulated car parks poses significant risks to vehicle owners and pedestrians”, she added that such facilities often lack oversight and safety measures, making them prone to security breaches and accidents.

Addressing the impact of uncoordinated parking on traffic flow, Adelabu emphasised that converting unapproved road sections into makeshift parking areas is illegal and disrupts traffic patterns, leading to congestion and increasing accident risks.

On unauthorised individuals soliciting parking fees, she stated that Lagos State no longer tolerates such activities.

“The involvement of touts or unauthorised individuals in soliciting parking fees is illegal and should be reported immediately”, she declared.

While noting that their actions confuse the public and disrupt order, the LASPA Boss reiterated the determination of the Agency to eradicate the menace of touting and unauthorised parking activities in Lagos State.

She stressed LASPA’s commitment to enforcing parking regulations rigorously and promoting good parking culture, saying “We are deeply concerned about the risks posed by illegal car park operators and unauthorised parking activities. Our priority is safeguarding public safety and ensuring strict compliance with Lagos State Parking Policy”.

The General Manager, therefore, urged residents and visitors to use only approved parking facilities displaying clear regulatory signage, imploring them to report suspicious or illegal parking operations to LASPA.
