The Enugu State Government has reported the tragic loss of 10 lives due to a cholera outbreak.Â
This alarming situation was revealed in a letter from Egwuonwu Samuel, the director of Medical Services at the Ministry of Health, to the Guild of Medical Directors.
He shared the urgent need for public awareness following the outbreak.
As of now, there have been numerous cases reported, prompting health officials to initiate immediate containment measures.
Medical facilities are urged to remain vigilant for symptoms such as severe diarrhea, abdominal pain, and vomiting.
The ministry has called for strict adherence to Infection Prevention and Control protocols across healthcare settings.
Cholera, primarily spread through contaminated water and food, poses serious health risks to the community.
Authorities are actively working to mitigate the outbreak, encouraging the public to practice good hygiene, including boiling drinking water, frequent handwashing, and ensuring food is properly prepared.
Additionally, the state government is coordinating efforts with local and international health organizations to monitor the situation closely and provide further guidance as necessary.
