“Can’t wait to Feel myself again” – Wizkid still in Mourning

The pain of loosing a loved one is a feeling that cannot be explained and dealing with grief can take a long while.

Grammy Award-Winning artist Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, widely known as Wizkid, recently made headlines not just for his presence at the UK premiere of “Bob Marley: One Love,” but also for the poignant emotions he carried with him throughout the event. As he confidently walked down the red carpet, charming the paparazzi with his superstar allure, many couldn’t help but notice a certain melancholy etched into his expression.

The occasion, celebrating the life of the legendary Bob Marley, inadvertently triggered a profound reflection in Wizkid, stirring memories of his late mother, Mrs. Dolapo Balogun, who passed away on August 18th, 2023, at the age of 66. Since her departure, Wizkid has been navigating a path through grief, his heart weighed down by the absence of the woman who played an integral role in his life.

Wizkid’s journey through mourning has been palpable to those who follow him closely. After orchestrating a heartfelt burial ceremony for his mother, he retreated to Nigeria, seeking solace in familiar surroundings. However, the pain of loss doesn’t easily fade, and its effects often manifest in unexpected ways.

Observers noted a sense of weariness and sorrow in Wizkid’s demeanor during the premiere, prompting speculation about his well-being. In response, Wizkid took to his verified Instagram page, using the insta-stories feature to share a glimpse into his emotional state. His words bore the weight of his grief as he confessed to feeling adrift since his mother’s passing, lamenting, “Look in the mirror didn’t feel myself, mama left me and I lost myself, can wait to feel myself again, life of a soldier, military wit it!”

Wizkid thanked his fans for sticking by him through the storm, despite the darkness that surrounds him during this time of loss. He thanked them for their steadfast support, noting that they had seen him at his lowest point. He finds hope in their unity for the day he may recapture his happiness and rise to the pinnacles of his career once more, pledging, “And I’m thankful you all going thru this phase with me, u seen me at my lowest now, when u see me back on my high, no complain.”

In this raw and vulnerable moment, Wizkid lays bare the profound impact of loss on his life, underscoring the deep bond he shared with his mother and the void her absence has left behind. As he grapples with grief in the public eye, his journey serves as a poignant reminder of the enduring power of love and the resilience of the human spirit.
