Bokkos regains normalcy following the burning of District Head’s residence

—

Bokkos town, located in Plateau State, has returned to a state of calm and normalcy following a disturbing incident where both the residence and office of the District Head, Michal Monday Adanchi, were subjected to arson.

The unrest caused considerable disruption in the area, prompting concerns among the local residents. However, the situation has now stabilized, and the town is gradually recovering from the impact of the destructive events that transpired.

The incident has raised questions about the underlying issues that led to such an act of violence within the community, highlighting the need for thorough investigation and measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

The return to normalcy signifies the resilience of the people and their collective efforts to rebuild and restore peace in the aftermath of this unfortunate incident.

This incident occurred as a result of discontent among protesting women regarding the arrest of community members linked to recent killings in the area.

The protesters accused the traditional ruler of collaborating with herders, referring to him as a sellout.

Sources from Bokkos reported that regular activities have resumed, and Major General Abdulssalami Abubakar, the General Officer Commanding three Division of the Nigerian Army, visited the area to assess the situation and express sympathy towards the traditional ruler.

During his visit, the army general urged the community to remain calm and continue with their daily routines.

The unrest follows Christmas Eve attacks on Bokkos and Barikin Ladi villages, resulting in the tragic death of over 100 individuals.

Subsequent reports of isolated killings in various communities have heightened tensions between herders and farming communities in the region.

The current situation highlights the difficulties and intricacies that these communities encounter while trying to keep peace and security intact. The challenges they face are numerous and complex, emphasizing the ongoing struggle to maintain a sense of tranquility and safety within their surroundings.
