In a passionate plea for enhanced commitment to education, the Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has urged parents to place utmost importance on the education of their children.
Governor Alia made this appeal during the commissioning and Appeal Fund for the Building of ICT Laboratory and Entrepreneurship Development Centre at Lenateka Schools, Tyowanye – Shorov, Buruku Local Government Area on Monday.
Governor Alia underscored the significance of equipping children with technological skills through ICT laboratories, emphasizing its potential to bolster employment opportunities and foster economic growth and self-sufficiency.
He expressed concern over the number of Benue children out of school due to insecurity, reaffirming his administration’s unwavering commitment to restoring peace and ensuring the return of displaced persons to their communities.
Commending the federal government for its support in addressing security challenges, Governor Alia called upon the youth to collaborate with traditional rulers in combating crime within their communities. He also lauded Hon. Samuel Tough, the proprietor of the school, for his dedication to community development and urged other Benue citizens to emulate his example.
Echoing Governor Alia’s sentiments, Pastor Afolabi Oketunji, Chairman of the occasion, emphasized the holistic nature of education, emphasizing its role in shaping critical thinking and societal development. Similarly, Samuel Terhide Tough, the proprietor of Lanateka group of schools, articulated his commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals equipped with both knowledge and character.
The event was graced by dignitaries including Sen. Barnabas Gemade and Prof. Member Genyi, featured presentations by Lanateka school pupils and the adornment of Governor Hyacinth Alia in traditional Tiv attire. It served as a poignant reminder of our collective responsibility to prioritize education and empower future generations for the betterment of society.
