Bauchi Government Announces Major Upgrade for Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium

—

The Bauchi government has announced ambitious plans to upgrade the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium (ATBS), increasing its seating capacity from 16,000 to 30,000.
Mohammed Salis, the Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, shared this development during a news conference held on Monday in Bauchi.
According to Salis, the remodeling and upgrading of the stadium will be undertaken through a Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement.
He emphasized that this initiative aligns with Governor Bala Mohammed’s vision to revitalize sporting facilities within the state.
This vision also includes the renovation of the dilapidated Olympic-size swimming pool, the games village, and the multipurpose indoor sports hall.
“This partnership is designed not only to provide a world-class venue for sports enthusiasts but also to create numerous opportunities for economic growth and development within the state,” Salis explained.
The commissioner highlighted that the modernization of these sporting facilities would significantly enhance the performance of athletes.
It is expected to attract both national and international competitions, thereby promoting tourism and increasing the state’s visibility on a global scale.
“The project aims to create a conducive environment for athletes to train and compete, which will in turn improve their chances of success at national and international levels,” he said.
Moreover, Salis noted that the modern facilities are expected to attract investors, create job opportunities, and stimulate economic growth in the region.
The upgraded stadium and other sporting facilities will serve as a catalyst for broader economic benefits, drawing in sports fans, tourists, and investors alike.
This initiative marks a significant step forward in the development of sports infrastructure in Bauchi, reflecting a broader commitment to fostering athletic excellence and economic development.
