Again, Twitter shuts up President Trump

Twitter is unrelenting in curtailing the excesses of U.S. President, Donald Trump, in mixing fiction with facts and outright spinning of lies.

Just hours after Trump signed an executive order to control the social media firms, Twitter flagged another tweet by the U.S. President, in which he calls Minneapolis protesters ‘thugs’.

In the tweet, Trump also threatened to send the military to shoot the protesters if the looting continues.

“These THUGS are dishonouring the memory of George Floyd, and I won’t let that happen. Just spoke to Governor Tim Walz and told him that the Military is with him all the way. Any difficulty and we will assume control but, when the looting starts, the shooting starts. Thank you!”, Trump said.

Twitter blanked it out with a message: “This Tweet violated the Twitter Rules about glorifying violence. However, Twitter has determined that it may be in the public’s interest for the Tweet to remain accessible”.

The Minneapolis protesters Trump called ‘Thugs’ were protesting against the unconscionable killing on Monday of George Floyd, an African-American by the police.

A policeman was videoed pressing down the neck of Floyd after Floyd’s arrest, despite his protest that ‘I can’t breathe’.

Three days of protests have followed not just in Minneapolis, but other U.S. cities.

Twitter had enraged Trump when it first flagged two of his tweets on Tuesday for spreading falsehood about mail-in-ballots.

Trump charged back, accusing Twitter of stifling free speech.

On Thursday, he signed an executive order that will make social media firms liable for litigations over posts on their platforms.
