AFCON 2023: I Want To Give Nigeria Something That They Will Remember-Osimhen

Super Eagles prolific striker, Victor Osimhen has said that he is ready to give his all to bring the AFCON trophy to Nigeria.

The Napoli star has been one of the outstanding players in the ongoing tournament and has on Saturday driven the Eagles to quarter-finals.

Even though the reigning African Player of the Year has only scored one goal in this year’s AFCON which was against Equatorial Guinea, his unimaginable prowess saw him overpower a defender of the Indomitable Lions before setting up Ademola Lookman for the opener that gave the Eagles an early lead.

The productive striker has revealed his desire to win the tournament with the current squad.

Disclosing on Osasu Obayiuwana’s X handle, Osimhen was quoted as saying; “I want to win something with this great squad.

“I want to give Nigeria something that they will remember. I’m giving everything to come home with the [AFCON] trophy.”

The Edo native, also said that the team is not yet performing at its best.

“I cannot lie, we haven’t played the best of our football yet. I think the whole team has this mentality of winning, we want to win,” Osimhen told reporters.

“For me, we are more like a family than just players. So for me, it is important to have this mentality of winning”. He added.

While commending the super Eagles goal keeper, Nwabali, for being very good at the field of play, Osimhen also appreciated the defenders of the team for their frantic feat as he emphasized that they have been focused since the start of the competition.

In its next encounter, the Super Eagles will slug it out with the Palancas Negras of Angola in a quarter-final fixture come Friday 2 January 2024.
