Abia State to partner with Chinese company to construct light rail

On Thursday, February 29, 2024, during an interview for the Thursday edition of “Politics Today” on Channels Television, this momentous announcement was made public.

In response to a question from the program’s anchor, Governor Otti disclosed this ambitious plan. It was one of his main campaign promises to build a light rail system if elected governor of Abia State in the most recent gubernatorial elections.

“We are discussing with a Chinese company and the discussions are going on well. It is not going to be easy, but it is going to be done. It is not something that you will just start and finish today,” Otti said.

Going into more detail, Governor Otti stated that the light rail project’s plans are presently being created.

After the design process is finished, attention will turn to dealing with the project’s commercial issues.

A layer of certainty was also provided when he reaffirmed his commitment to seeing the Abia State light rail project through to a successful conclusion and stated unequivocally that it is destined to become a reality.

“The designs are being done. We will move from there to commercial issues and at the end of the day we will do it,” he added.
