A housewife, Hauwa Usman, has approached an Upper Area Court in Mararaba, Abuja, seeking the dissolution of her marriage to her husband, Habib Adamu, over alleged neglect.
Usman is also asking the court to grant her custody of their child.
She told the court that she was married to Adamu under Islamic Sharia law but had endured years of hardship in the union.
“I have not known peace in my marriage. My husband keeps late nights and does not provide for the family.
“He has also failed in performing his duties as my husband,” she said.
According to Usman, she has single-handedly catered for the welfare of their child for the past five years due to her husband’s alleged neglect.
Responding to the claims, Adamu admitted to the allegations brought against him by the petitioner.
Presiding Judge, Mohammed Shomo, advised the couple to explore an amicable resolution and granted them two weeks to reconcile their differences or return for the formal dissolution of the marriage.
The matter was adjourned until July 8 for a report on the outcome of the reconciliation efforts.
