What is patriotism? What is development? Who’s loyal?
Who’s fooling who here? Who truly loves his/her country?
There is development, look at the photos on my FB page.
He proudly posts photos presiding over the handover
of a bridge to a stunned community. A ribbon-cutting show.
In attendance are his officials, sophisticated in appearance.
They fly or drive glitzy imported cars, sport designer suits.
Why the importation of costly cars? Couldn’t they save forex?
Couldn’t they innovate, build local cars, create jobs, fix the roads?
If you disagree with him or you don’t support his political party,
you are labelled unpatriotic, ungrateful, unsupportive and bad.
Do you lose sleep over such characterisation? If they describe you
as unpatriotic, ungrateful or unsupportive since you state the obvious:
nightmarish Victoria Fall Road, joblessness, illicit wealth, rampant
corruption and nepotism, high taxation and steep cost of living etc.,
then your conscience is clear, you speak for the voiceless and weak.
Are you responsible for the exodus of citizens or impassable roads?
Are you really anti-development? Don’t you honestly love your nation?
Maybe you don’t love your nation because, after failing to secure a job
in the country, you landed in another land and landed a job and loved it!
