Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has dispelled growing public speculation regarding potential funding shortages for the Federal Government’s four major legacy road projects, confirming that financial arrangements are fully secured and work is progressing rapidly.
In an official statement, the Minister clarified that the required 30 percent counterpart funding for all four legacy projects has been paid in full. Providing an update on construction progress, Umahi highlighted that work across the corridors has reached an appreciable level, reassuring Nigerians that the projects remain on track for successful completion under the current administration.
In addition to the legacy projects, the Works Minister shared updates regarding the Asaba–Benin highway corridor currently under concession agreements, detailing plans aimed at expediting its revitalization.
Addressing stalled infrastructure developments, Umahi issued a stern warning to contractors handling inherited Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) tax credit projects. He urged all defaulting contractors to immediately return to their respective construction sites or face decisive government action and penalties.
Turning to political issues, Umahi expressed strong confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would secure a substantial victory in the South East zone in upcoming elections. However, he cautioned political actors across the nation to focus their campaigns on substantive issues and policy rather than resorting to malicious attacks.
