The All Progressives Congress (APC) has finally addressed the widespread rumors regarding the potential removal of its National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje.
Speculation about his ousting has been circulating heavily on social media and various online platforms, with many suggesting that President Bola Tinubu might be considering appointing Ganduje to an ambassadorial position to distance him from ongoing corruption investigations.
However, the APC’s Deputy National Organising Secretary, Nze Chidi Duru, has dismissed these speculations, labeling them as “ridiculous” and mere “wishful thinking.”
Duru emphasized that any abrupt changes in the party’s leadership could destabilize the party’s structure and cause unnecessary unrest.
Duru further elaborated on the importance of maintaining stability within the party, particularly when it comes to leadership positions.
He stressed that the chairmanship of the APC has been specifically zoned to the North-West region, a decision that was agreed upon by the National Executive Committee (NEC) with input from all relevant party components and organs.
Any attempts to alter this zoning decision, according to Duru, could lead to significant instability within the party.
“It would be one change of guard too many,” Duru stated. “There must be stability, even in the administration of party hierarchy. That kind of wishful thinking is not how a party should be run. You cannot maintain a strong party structure on instability. It wouldn’t be beneficial for any party.”
He further added, “The chairmanship of the party has been zoned to the North-West. This decision was made at the NEC level with full participation from all party components and organs. If anyone disagrees with this, they are free to seek redress in court, as we are a law-abiding institution.”
The controversy surrounding Ganduje’s leadership has been ongoing, with calls for his resignation coming from certain party members, particularly from the North-Central region.
Recently, a former APC chairmanship aspirant, Muhammad Etsu, filed a legal injunction seeking to prevent Ganduje from continuing to act as the party’s national chairman.
Etsu argues that the chairmanship should rightfully remain in the North-Central region, as per previous agreements within the party.
This internal discord has raised concerns about potential fractures within the APC if the issue is not resolved amicably.
However, Duru’s strong statements suggest that the party’s leadership is committed to maintaining its current structure and ensuring stability as the APC continues to navigate through these turbulent times.
