Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has inaugurated the second Governing Council of Borno State University (BOSU), reappointing business mogul and education philanthropist, Alhaji Muhammadu Indimi, as Chairman.
The ceremony took place at the Council Chamber of the Government House in Maiduguri on Monday.
Speaking at the event, Governor Zulum described the Governing Council as the “legal custodian of the university’s destiny,” tasked with providing strategic direction, maintaining academic excellence, and safeguarding the welfare of staff and students.
He congratulated the members on their appointment, noting that their selection was based on integrity, experience, and a passion for education and community development.
Zulum praised the council’s achievements over the past four years, pointing out that BOSU had grown from 300 students at its inception to over 10,000 today.
He reminded members that the challenges ahead require a focus on research, innovative teaching, and a curriculum tailored to post-insurgency recovery and sustainable development.
The Governor urged the council to manage resources transparently, foster a peaceful academic environment, and strengthen partnerships with industries and institutions both locally and abroad to attract resources and expertise.
“This inauguration comes at a time when our administration is making massive investments in education, with about 136 institutions spread across the state,” Zulum said. He called on staff, students, and the wider university community to support the new council, stressing that their success is tied to the progress of the state.
