We can’t sack Jose Peseiro because we don’t have money — NFF

Jose Peseiro: Not yet Goodbye!

A member of the Nigeria Football Federation has revealed reasons why the Federation can’t consider cutting ties with underperforming Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro. The Portuguese gaffer’s performance has been below average since taking over the Super Eagles job.

Mr Essien who revealed this to reporters said that money will be a barrier to why the Federation will not be able to relieve Jose Peseiro of his duty. He said the Federation is aware that Nigerians want a replacement, and they are also not happy.

“If we had the money, we would be willing to relieve him of his job, we’re not happy. Everybody is asking for the sack of the head coach. It’s unfortunate that from a possible six points, we only have two points. We’re in a very precarious situation,” NFF member Essien told reporters.

The Super Eagles were held to a 1-1 draw yesterday during their second World Cup qualifier game against Zimbabwe in Uganda. Before that game, Nigeria had battled to earn a point in Uyo against Lesotho—a poor development many football lovers in Nigeria have frowned against.

Jose, who recently extended his contract by one year, has been responsible for 13 games with the Super Eagles, he has won 6 of those games, lost, and drawn 3, though, he has qualified Nigeria for the 2024 AFCON billed to kick off from January to February next year.
