Yunusa Jibrin, a UK-based Nigerian researcher, has announced the creation of an Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool designed to identify terrorists and their hideouts.Â
Using AI-driven image synthesis and a Vision Transformer (VT) model, Jibrin claims his research has shown remarkable accuracy in identifying potential threats.
Jibrin, a University of Sussex alumna, shared that his AI tool generates thousands of visual representations depicting bandits in desert environments.
In preliminary evaluations, the technology demonstrated promising results, sparking discussions about its potential integration into the Nigerian government’s operational frameworks.
Speaking to Vanguard, Jibrin emphasized that if adopted by the federal government, his findings could significantly enhance the military’s capabilities in identifying and eliminating terrorists across the country.
As Nigeria continues to grapple with a prolonged battle against terrorism, Jibrin’s breakthrough offers a potential technological edge in the ongoing efforts to ensure national security.
Efforts are currently underway to formalize these findings, with plans for publication and integration of the developed algorithms into the Nigerian government’s anti-terrorism strategies.
