Toyin Abraham Faces Backlash for Allegedly Holding Social Media User in Jail

Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham has refuted allegations of illegally arresting a social media user and his mother for defamation, addressing the controversy during an Instagram live session on Wednesday, July 10.

“I said I wasn’t going to say anything anymore, but there are some things that you can’t accuse me wrongly of and expect me not to say something. I would not arrest anybody’s mum because I have a mother as well. I never arrested anyone’s mother,” Abraham declared, visibly distressed by the accusations.

She clarified her actions, stating, “I’ve had it up to here because you people cursed my child, but I did not arrest anybody’s mother. I simply wrote a petition, and they said I should go to the cybercrime department, which I did, and I wrote a petition there.”

Abraham expressed deep frustration with the backlash she has received online, revealing her extreme distress. “I came online on social media to beg everybody to leave me the hell alone. As I am, I want to die. I am ready to die, but before I die, a lot of you bullies will die with me,” she emotionally stated.

She also alleged that there were efforts to ruin her career and life through paid actions. “These people were paid to ruin my career and ruin my life, but I have not committed any crimes so I’m not scared. I am ready to die but before I die I will make sure that I won’t take it easy on everybody who bullied me and defamed me,” she cried.

Abraham’s spokesman defended her actions as a response to cyberbullying, stating, “It is not an abuse of power; it’s a fight against cyberbullying. Everyone must understand that actions have consequences, especially online.”

Following her response, several personalities took to criticize the actor and producer.

Controversial Internet personality VeryDarkMan (VDM) reacted: “Madam abeg stop disgracing yourself, this is an embarrassment to your brand, go and release that guy… @toyin_abraham as a celebrity you should know things like this will always happen, instead of dizgrazn yourself like this there are a lot of approach, have some claz, n tomorrow you want people to watch your film??? Madam release the boy if na you carry am, his mother is cryin at the station.”

Mr Macaroni, also known as Debo Adebayo, commented on the controversy surrounding Toyin Abraham’s actions. His response reads:

“If anyone insults you or defames your character, go to court and seek justice. APC trolls insult me and tell so many Lies against my person. I have never for once used the police to illegally arrest or detain anyone and Never will I.

“There is serious danger in using the police to illegally detain citizens. I hope those of you supporting this abuse of power won’t cry foul when you or your loved ones are the victims.

“To be clear, this is not to support Online bullying and harassment. I strongly condemn it and believe that those involved should be made to face the consequences of their actions.

“I am a victim myself and I know how mentally damaging it is. But go to Court and seek Justice like the rest of us do. Don’t use your friends in government to illegally detain citizens. It may favor you now, but think about tomorrow when you no longer have that power or the closeness to that power. It might not be you, it might be someone you care about. What will become of us if everyone takes law into their own hands?”
