The Inspector-General of Police Pujith Jayasundara, has resigned over failures that led to the deadly Easter bomb attacks. This is coming after the country’s top defense ministry official, defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando resigned on Thursday.
The country’s president Maithripala Sirisena announced the news today, after 253 people were killed during eight explosions near hotels and churches near the capital Colombo. According to him, “The IGP has resigned. He has sent his resignation to the acting defence secretary. I’ll nominate a new IGP soon.”
Sri Lanka’s Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando resigned on Thursday, taking responsibility for what the government earlier termed “a major lapse.”
