Protesters led by Mohammed Ibrahim Biu call for the immediate reinstatement of Senator Ali Ndume as the Chief Whip of the Senate.Â
The protester organized under the aegis of the Borno South Development Association, urged Senate President Godswill Akpabio to reinstate Ndume without delay.
Ndume, an outspoken lawmaker, has recently directed a series of criticisms at President Bola Tinubu through various media interviews.
Among his claims, Ndume asserted that the President has been “caged” and is therefore unaware of the economic hardships and sufferings of Nigerians.
In response to his criticisms, the National Working Committee (NWC) of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), wrote a letter to the Senate demanding Ndume’s removal from his principal office.
Consequently, Ndume was stripped of his position as Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations and was offered the position of Chairman of the Senate Committee on Tourism, which he declined.
He was subsequently replaced by Senator Tahir Monguno (APC, Borno North) as Chief Whip.
During their demonstration at the Unity Fountain in the nation’s capital on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, the protesters praised Ndume’s courage in speaking truth to power.
Addressing the media, Mohammed Ibrahim Biu described Ndume as a vibrant lawmaker who has effectively served his constituents over the years. Biu argued that Ndume should not be sanctioned for telling the truth.
Biu emphasized that Ndume’s removal as Chief Whip is against the interests of the people of Borno South and Nigerians.
He stressed that justice must prevail in this matter and called for the immediate reinstatement of Ndume to his former position.
