Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye on Wednesday vowed to protect men of of the State Fire Service from mob attack in the course of discharging their duties during fire outbreaks.
Adeoye made the vow when the Director/ Fire Chief, Anambra State Fire Service, Engr Dr Martin Agbili paid him a familiarization visit at the State Police Command, Amawbia.
There have been incidences of attack on members of the state fire service while they discharge their duties, by angry mob, groused over either late arrival of the fire men or inadequate water to extinguish the fire.
Speaking during the visit, the Anambra CP identified the fire men as critical to the security of lives and property and as such, the command must have good synergy with them.
He said the Command will henceforth avail the state fire service better collaboration as well as regular open door to firemen in the State.
“Because the work you do have a lot with security of lives and property, which is what we do, I want to assure you of better synergy and protection of your men on duty with all Police resources and structure in the State.
“I also promise open door to firemen at all times,” he said.
Earlier, the Anambra State Fire Chief, Engr Agbili said his visit to the Police Command was to reignite the relationship between the Police and the Fire Service in the State as well as protection of Firemen from angry mobs ahead of dry season.
“I am here on a 2-agenda visit, namely to revalidate the synergy between the Police and the Anambra State Fire Service and the protection of the Firemen from angry mobs on the fire especially now we are entering dry season.
“Ours is a very delicate work and due to the ravages of fire, the people are always angry.
“So, we believe we need the support and protection of the police in the work we do,” he said.
