Ossai Blasts Davido for “Disrespecting” Igbo Culture in Pre-Wedding Photos

Nigerian superstar Davido has come under fire for what many are calling a blatant disrespect to Igbo culture.

Ossai Ovie Success, a prominent social commentator and aide to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, has publicly condemned the singer’s choice of attire in his pre-wedding photos with fiancée Chioma Rowland.

In a strong-worded Facebook post, Ossai criticized Davido for donning Yoruba attire, despite his bride-to-be being of Igbo descent. According to Ossai, this choice not only disregards but also insults the cultural traditions of the Igbo people.

“Seeing Davido’s pre-wedding photos where he wore Yoruba attire while marrying an Igbo woman, Chioma, was shocking. As a man, when you are getting married to a woman, it’s paramount you respect her culture by dressing in her culture,” Ossai stated.

The post, which has since gone viral, highlights the importance of honoring and respecting cultural heritage, especially during significant events such as weddings. Ossai emphasized that in many African cultures, the groom wearing the bride’s traditional attire is a powerful symbol of respect and unity.

“As someone who values cultural heritage, I believe it’s important to respect and honor each other’s traditions, especially on special occasions like weddings,” he added.

Ossai’s comments have sparked a heated debate on social media, with many supporting his stance while others argue that love and personal choice should transcend cultural expectations.

Despite the criticism, Ossai extended his congratulations to the couple, expressing his happiness for them but maintaining his position on the cultural oversight. “I am happy for Davido and Chioma but I just have to speak the truth even though I will be attending their wedding,” he concluded.

This controversy adds another layer to the highly anticipated wedding of Davido and Chioma, which has already captured the public’s attention. As the couple prepares to tie the knot, it remains to be seen how they will address these cultural concerns and whether they will make any changes to honor Chioma’s Igbo heritage.
