The Coalition of Orphanages and Children’s Home In Nigeria has lauded Nigerian Afrobeat singer David Adeleke popularly known as Davido for his financial support to orphans and the less privileged across the country.

In a letter of appreciation signed by the group’s president, Eze Njoku and posted on the singer’s X handle on 30th May, the group expressed sincere gratitude to the singer for his financial commitment towards caring for the children whom they described as ‘forgotten Nigerians’.

While expressing happiness for the gesture, Njoku also noted that no Nigerian has ever done what the singer has done to orphanage homes in Nigeria.

The letter reads in parts; we are very happy to note that no Nigerian has ever done this to the orphanages neither has the government given this magnanimous support before”.

The letter, which acknowledged the receipt of Davido’s support funds in February 2024, revealed that a total of 42 out of 52 orphanages under the coalition benefited from the donation.

Njoku assured the music talisman that the COCHIN will make judicious use of resources donated to them in order to cater for the children as he urged the singer to continue in his effort as a beacon of hope to the less privileged.

Recall that on February 20, Davido announced a 300 million Naira donation to orphanages across the country.

The music icon disclosed this in a post shared on his X handle. Davido along with his foundation, David Adeleke Foundation annually made donations to orphanages.

He wrote, “I and my foundation pledge the sum of 300 million Naira to orphanages around Nigeria … as my yearly contribution to the Nation .. details of disbursement tomorrow.”

Meanwhile, on May 21, during a courtesy visit to the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, Davido highlighted the importance of private sector contributions to social welfare, noting that government efforts alone are not sufficient to address the needs of orphaned and abandoned children.

He explained that his annual expenditure on orphanages covers various necessities, including food, clothing, education, and medical care, ensuring that the children receive holistic support.

As for me, I’m doing my part. I have a Foundation. Every year, I share N300million, N400million to orphanages. Just doing my part to assist society. We have a new album coming out in June or July. I just thank you for everything you have been doing for us,” Davido added.
