Nigeria reach AFCON final after 11 years

The Super Eagles of Nigeria reached the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in 11 years after a terrific performance against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa. 

The game which extended to extra time was finally decided by penalty shoot out. Nigeria beat South Africa to reach the final.

First half:

The game kicked off with both sides looking disciplined and avoiding noticeable errors. In the 15th minute, South Africa had a better of the ball possession, utilizing the vulnerability of Nigeria in the midfield. The first half ended on a barren draw as South Africa looked promising.

Second Half:

It was an entire game approach from the Super Eagles of Nigeria, who performed better in the first 15 minutes. Alhassan Yusuf and Samuel Chukwueze were brought in the 62nd minutes for Simon Moses and Alex Iwobi, who game has been disappointing. Nigeria won a penalty through Osimhen brilliant drive into the South Africa goalkeepers yard in the 63rd minutes. Of course, the captain steps in to covert from the spot kick, giving Nigeria the lead. South Africa responded from the spot kick following Yusuf Alhassan’s horrendous tackle in Nigeria’s yard.

The game finished on 1-1 score line and an extra 30 minutes would be used to separate both sides.

Nigeria beat South Africa in the Penalty shoot by 4-2 reaching the final for the first time after 11 years.
