NEDC plans to establish a large-scale waste recycling center in Adamawa

—

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) says they’re planning to build a really big place where they’ll recycle waste in Yola to help keep Adamawa clean and safe.

Mr. Sufiyan Mallum, who is the Senior Manager for Environment and Natural Resources at the commission, shared this during a five-day training workshop for 100 people about climate change in Yola.

He said this recycling place will handle 100 tonnes of waste every day and will be given to the state government once it’s set up.

Mallum mentioned that this is part of what the commission is doing to protect the environment, create jobs for young people, and help the state and region grow.

He also said they’ll be teaching people about recycling plastic waste and providing training on using energy-efficient stoves to 100 women. After the training, these women will get starter kits to help them.

He asked everyone at the workshop to share what they learn about climate change with others in their communities.

Another person at the workshop, Mr. Ahmad Abbah, talked about how Nigeria is greatly affected by climate change because of things people do and natural reasons.

He asked the participants to learn well from the training so they can tell others about following environmental rules and planting more trees, like what happens in other countries.

The Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Mohammed Sadiq, thought the training was happening at the right time, considering the problems they’re facing from climate change in the state.

He said everyone needs to work together to protect the environment. He praised NEDC for the training and told the participants to take part and help fight against climate change.

Mr. Innocent Ishaya, who spoke for the participants, thanked NEDC for giving them the chance to learn about climate change and its bad effects on the environment. He promised they’ll share what they’ve learned with their communities and on social media.
