Mass Burial Scheduled for Victims of Boko Haram Attack in Yobe State

The corpses of More than 87 villagers who were brutally killed by Boko Haram insurgents on Sunday have been evacuated from Mafa, a town in Tamuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State.

According to sources, the remains of the victims were moved to Babbangida General Hospital in preparation for a mass burial, scheduled to take place on Tuesday at 10 a.m.

The Deputy Governor of Yobe State, Honorable Idi Barde Gubana, along with other top government officials, will be attending the burial ceremony, which will be held at the Emir’s palace in Babbangida, the headquarters of Tarmuwa Local Government Area.

Eyewitnesses from the affected community reported that at least 87 people were killed during the attack. “We can categorically confirm that the insurgents killed at least 87 people,” one source stated.

The source further explained that some victims died in the bush, making it difficult to recover their bodies, even for the military.

Currently, 87 corpses have been transported to Babbangida General Hospital after being evacuated by military personnel from the devastated community.

The source also noted that some of the bodies, which had already begun to decompose, would be buried at the scene of the massacre.

The attack, which occurred in the village of Mafa, primarily targeted local farmers. Boko Haram militants stormed the village around 4 pm, just as the residents were returning from their farms. They reportedly killed many villagers, set houses ablaze, and destroyed shops.

Mafa is situated near Shekau village, the hometown of the late Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau.

The village has experienced significant violence and unrest due to its proximity to areas previously under Boko Haram control.

This tragic incident highlights the ongoing threat posed by Boko Haram in northeastern Nigeria, where insurgents continue to target innocent civilians, particularly in remote farming communities.
