In a bid to avert severe congestion and enhance logistics efficiency, the Lagos State government, in collaboration with Call Up technology, is set to deploy an electronic call-up (e-call-up) system to manage truck movements within the Lekki-Epe Free Trade Zone corridor.Â
This advanced digital platform, scheduled to commence next month, aims to synchronize the flow of trucks from Eleko junction to the Lekki Free Trade Zone.
The primary objective of this initiative is to prevent the chaotic traffic situations often caused by the indiscriminate parking and movement of trucks.
The e-call-up system will regulate the entry and exit of trucks, ensuring a smoother flow of traffic and reducing congestion.
This technology-driven solution is part of a broader effort to implement sustainable and effective logistics management in one of Lagos’ most critical economic zones.
Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, emphasized the urgent need for this system, highlighting its role in improving the efficiency of truck movements within the corridor.
The e-call-up system will help streamline vehicular traffic, enhancing free movement and boosting overall logistics efficiency.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Mr. Sola Giwa, noted that the system will prevent the chaotic traffic often seen in the Lekki-Epe area by scheduling and coordinating truck movements.
This will lead to a more organized and efficient flow of goods and services, which is essential for the economic vitality of the region.
The initiative is supported by both State and Federal Government plans for road network expansion and the development of inter-modal transport systems.
These efforts are designed to create a more integrated and efficient transport infrastructure, further enhancing the benefits of the e-call-up system.
The Lekki-Epe corridor is a major economic hub in Lagos, home to the Lekki Free Trade Zone, the Dangote Refinery, and the Lekki Deep Sea Port. Efficient logistics and transportation in this area are crucial for the state’s economy.
