Gov. Zulum allocates 5,000 livestock to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) In Borno

—

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno recently distributed 5,000 livestock to 2,500 displaced persons in Pulka, Gwoza Local Government Area. The governor, represented by Deputy Governor Usman Kadafur, emphasized that this initiative aimed to help farmers, previously displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency, rebuild their animal resources and improve their lives.

The distribution event, held in Pulka, is part of the government’s broader efforts to restore the livelihoods of those affected by the insurgency. Governor Zulum highlighted the collaborative efforts between the state government and development partners to implement programs aligning with the Development Plan and 10-Year Transformation Agenda.

Commending the Regional Stabilisation Facility and the UN Development Programme for their support, Governor Zulum urged the beneficiaries to take good care of the distributed animals for improved social and economic well-being.

Ahmadu Umara, Permanent Secretary of the Borno State Ministry of Rehabilitation Reconstruction and Resettlement, reported that 3,000 animals had been distributed to 500 women farmers in the last month.

He also mentioned plans to distribute an additional 200 animals by the year’s end. The aim is to restore the lost means of livelihood, reduce poverty, and encourage economic recovery for displaced communities.

Abdullahi Danjatau, the Caretaker Chairman of Gwoza Local Council, expressed gratitude for the initiative, stating that it greatly assisted resettled communities.

He highlighted other projects executed by the state government to restore civil authorities and enhance the delivery of quality social services in various communities, including Pulka, Kirawa, Warabe, and Gwoza.

One of the beneficiaries, Buba Sale, who received goats, expressed gratitude, stating that the gesture would significantly improve his living conditions.

In its entirety, the initiative of providing livestock epitomizes a holistic strategy designed to tackle the difficulties encountered by individuals impacted by conflict, with the overarching goal of fostering enduring recovery and enhancing overall welfare.

This program endeavors to implement a thorough plan that considers various aspects of support, aiming not only to address immediate needs but also to establish a foundation for sustained well-being and progress in the long term.
