Former Emir, Sanusi II criticizes Gawuna’s reaction to election loss in Kano

—

Muhammad Sanusi II, who holds the distinguished position as the fourteenth Emir of Kano, has voiced his dissatisfaction regarding the conduct of Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, the gubernatorial candidate representing the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano, specifically in relation to his apparent lack of grace in accepting the outcome of the election in which he was defeated.

The Emir expressed disappointment with Gawuna’s response to the electoral setback, indicating that he expected a more composed and graceful acknowledgment of the results.

During an online event presenting an Islamic book, the former Emir highlighted how the opposition pursued legal avenues through the tribunal and appeal courts, ultimately facing defeat in the Supreme Court. He saw this as evidence of Gawuna’s lack of confidence in the people’s choice.

Emir Sanusi emphasized the citizens’ fundamental right to vote for their preferred leaders and condemned the practice of denying people their chosen leaders after they’ve cast their votes. He argued that such actions go against democratic principles.

In his words, “Something noteworthy is happening; after citizens cast their votes and lose the election, they turn to the courts to forcefully take power. It’s only in the final court, facing Allah, that they claim to accept Allah’s decision.”

Emir Sanusi encouraged everyone to learn from the opposition’s acceptance of defeat and foster resilience in the face of judicial decisions.

Shifting his focus to the current governor of Kano State, he offered prayers and counsel, advocating for a fair and democratic process in the upcoming election.

The Emir urged citizens to carefully assess the governor’s performance and make informed decisions when casting their votes.

He stressed the importance of remaining committed to prayer for divine guidance in leadership and the overall progress of Kano State.
