Enzo Fernandez Apologizes After Posting Racist Video Chant Targeting French Players

Chelsea and Argentina winger Enzo Fernandez has tendered an apology following his racist video post targeting France’s national team players, Argentina’s opponents in the 2022 World Cup final.

Prior to this statement, he had been unfollowed by his Chelsea teammates and French players Axel Disasi, Wesley Fofana, and Malo Gusto.

“I want to apologize sincerely for a video posted on my Instagram channel during national team celebrations.

“The song there includes highly offensive language, and there’s absolutely no excuse for negative words.

“I stand against discrimination in all forms and apologize for getting caught up in the euphoria of our celebrations.

“That video, that moment, those words do not reflect my beliefs or my character.

“I am truly sorry.”

In the homophobic video posted by Enzo during their Copa America triumph parade, a section of Argentina’s players were seen taking part in the video, which has been frowned upon by the French Football Federation, who are set to file legal action against the Copa America winner.

The full lyrics of the song, occasionally sung by a segment of Argentina’s players/supporters, are: “Listen, spread the word, they play in France, but they are all from Angola, they are going to run well, they like to sleep with trans people, their mum is Nigerian, their dad is Cameroonian, but on the passport it says: French.”

Eduardo Camavinga was born in Angola, Kylian Mbappe’s father is Cameroonian, and his mother has Nigerian heritage.

In 2022, during the final of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Argentina’s fans were making the same discriminatory chant in the stadium against France, a development the French Football Federation has deemed unfit for football.
