A tragic road accident occurred at Gaya Junction along the Kano-Maiduguri Expressway in Kano State, resulting in the loss of 11 lives and injuries to 16 others.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kano State Sector Command, through its Public Education Officer, A.A. Labaran, provided details of the incident.
It was reported that the accident involved two vehicles a Toyota hummer bus and a Hijet mini Pick-up.
Preliminary investigations suggested that over-speeding led to the loss of control, resulting in the crash and subsequent fire outbreak around 3:45 pm on Friday.
Out of the 28 individuals involved, 11 lost their lives, while 16 sustained injuries. Fortunately, one person was rescued unhurt from the wreckage.
Prompt response led to the swift transportation of the injured to Gaya General Hospital for urgent medical attention, while the deceased were respectfully laid to rest in a mass burial ceremony.
CC IS Abdullahi, the Sector Commander, expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident and stressed the importance of adherence to road safety regulations.
He urged commercial drivers to install Speed Limit devices on their vehicles to prevent accidents caused by speed limit violations.
Additionally, drivers were cautioned against traffic offenses such as over-speeding and overloading of vehicles.
Labaran reiterated the Sector Command’s dedication to ensuring the safety of road users and pledged to intensify efforts in enforcing traffic regulations to prevent similar incidents in the future.
