The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) explained its plan for spending the N706.43 billion budget for 2024 to the Nigeria Senate Committee on Customs at the National Assembly.
The head of the Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, talked about the budget, promising to make more money than the N5.079 trillion target in 2024.
They want to make 27.75% more money in 2024 than in 2023. To do this, they will use the National Single Window. This is a plan by the Federal Ministry of Finance to make everything electronic and modern.
This will help Customs make more money, which will help the country’s economy grow.
The Customs boss talked about plans to make Customs processes the same everywhere, ease congestion at ports, work better with other agencies, stop smuggling, use more technology, train staff better, and talk more with stakeholders.
He also said they want to help local businesses and make sure there is enough food.
They plan to let people who own cars pay their taxes later to avoid trouble. They also want to make it easier for people to bring in cars by paying taxes.
The head of Customs said they will focus on old projects, make staff happier by helping them work better, and use more technology.
He said they will also hire 1,600 new staff in 2024, but not many because they don’t have many empty jobs.
They will hire mostly junior staff to do Customs work and guard places. Later, they will hire more people.
The Customs boss said they didn’t make as much money in 2023 as they wanted because of some problems. But he promised things will be better in 2024.
The chairman of the Senate Committee on Customs, Senator Isa Jibrin, praised the head of Customs for doing well in a short time. He said they will help him make more money and improve things for the staff.
