Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission Announces LG Elections for August 19

The Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) has set August 19, 2024, as the date for local government elections within the state.

This announcement was made by the commission’s chairman, Alhaji Ahmad Makama, during a press conference held on Tuesday in Bauchi.

In his address, Alhaji Makama emphasized that all necessary preparations have been finalized to ensure that the upcoming elections are conducted in a free and fair manner.

He assured the public of the commission’s dedication to upholding the principles of credibility and transparency throughout the electoral process.

Makama urged the citizens of Bauchi State to actively participate in the elections by coming out to vote for their preferred candidates across all political parties.

He emphasized the importance of public engagement in the democratic process, highlighting that a high voter turnout is crucial for the legitimacy of the elections.

Addressing concerns about potential rigging, Makama firmly denied any allegations of election manipulation.

He referenced the commission’s track record, noting that previous elections conducted under BASIEC’s oversight were deemed free and fair.

In preparation for the upcoming elections, BASIEC has organized a series of meetings with political parties, security chiefs, and other relevant stakeholders.

These consultations are part of the commission’s efforts to ensure comprehensive and coordinated planning for the elections.

Finally, Alhaji Makama called on the public to support the commission’s efforts to facilitate smooth and peaceful local government elections.

He stressed that the cooperation of all stakeholders, including the electorate, is vital for the success of the electoral process.
