Bandits attacked the residence of Alhaji Musa Mallaha, the chairman of the Zamfara State Hajj Commission, early on Thursday.
The incident occurred in Gusau, the state capital, leading to the tragic deaths of Mallaha’s son, Abdulmunafi Musa, and a security guard.
During the attack, the bandits also kidnapped another of Mallaha’s son, Mu’awiyya Lawali.
It was reported that they attempted to kidnap the chairman himself but were unsuccessful.
A resident named Ishiaku Umaru recounted that the bandits began shooting indiscriminately after breaking into the house.
“The shootings woke us up as everyone in the area started running helter-skelter. Nobody can exactly say how many people were killed or kidnapped. But it was certain that one of the chairman’s sons and his watchman were killed while another of his sons was kidnapped,” Umaru said.
He further revealed that the bandits kidnapped several other residents, mostly women and children.
The chaotic situation made it difficult to determine the exact number of casualties and kidnappings immediately following the attack.
