The Minister of Youths Development, Jamila Ibrahim, has highlighted the significance of artificial intelligence (AI) in advancing the electoral development of Nigerian youths.Â
Her remarks came during the unveiling of the ‘Naija Elections’ app in Abuja, an initiative by the Kimpact Development Initiative (KDI) with backing from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).
The ‘Naija Elections’ app is designed to empower Nigerian youths by providing them with easy access to accurate and real-time electoral information.
By offering this resource, the app aims to foster meaningful participation among the youth in the electoral process, enhancing their role in Nigeria’s democracy.
Minister Ibrahim said that the government is committed to leveraging technology to strengthen democratic processes in the country.
The development and deployment of such technological tools are seen as pivotal in ensuring a more transparent and efficient electoral system.
The app aggregates information from official sources, including the Nigerian Constitution and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), ensuring users receive reliable data. Importantly, it does not require users to sign in or store personal data, prioritizing user privacy and security.
The ‘Naija Elections’ app is readily accessible to the public and can be found at www.naijaelections.ng. Developed by Nigerians for Nigerians, it is tailored to provide comprehensive electoral information relevant to the local context.
